Every now and again a buzz word hits the lifestyle scene that inspires a wellness revolution. The benefits of green tea, Pilates and wheatgrass are now common knowledge to the average health conscious individual.
One of the new trends in health is finding alternative means to sweeten foods other than using good old fashioned sugar. One of those wonderful alternatives is Stevia Rebaudiana, a plant that gives a sweet taste without excess kilojoules and carbohydrates found in normal sugar. (Already it sounds appealing doesn’t it?).
From the jungles of South and Central America the little Stevia plant has been fighting off sweet cravings for generations and is now becoming more accessible to the general public.
The extraction process of Stevia involves drying out the leaves and separating the molecules by water extraction and crystallisation techniques where no harmful chemicals are used. The final product is up to 300 times sweeter than sugar which means a little goes a long way.
Whether you are reducing your sugar intake for health reasons or to lose weight, Stevia has received a great deal of attention for its many uses and benefits. It can be added to anything from cereals to salad dressings and used in any recipe for a delicious sweet flavour.

I have made a few attempts at a Victoria Sponge with Canderel. To say it hasn't worked would be an understatement..Any tips?
ReplyDeleteHi :) sorry about the delay in getting back to you. May I ask if you are using Canderel Red or Canderel Yellow?
